How the Science Works

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) is a 'modern' approach that moves away from analysing past traumas and instead focuses on the future you want to create. It combines Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) with the relaxed state of hypnosis.

The science behind it is rooted in neurobiology, specifically how our brains process stress and form new habits.

The Neurobiology of Stress

SFH relies heavily on the 'Three-Brain' model to explain how we get stuck in negative patterns

The Intellectual Brain
(Left Prefrontal Cortex)

This is the rational, conscious part of you. When you operated from here, you are generally calm and make sensible decisions.

The Emotional Brain
(Limbic System)

This is the survival centre. When stress levels rise, the amygdala (your 'fight-or-flight' alarm) takes over.

The Hippocampus
 

This acts as a library of all your memories and habits.

Neuroplasticity and Rewiring

The core scientific principle behind hypnotherapy is neuroplasticity - the brain's ability to reorganise itself by forming new neural connections.

SFBT Influence

By asking 'solution-focused' questions (like the Miracle Question), the therapist forces the brain to divert energy away from the 'problem-focused' neural pathways and toward a 'solution-focused' one.

The Role of Neurotransmitters

SFH is designed to trigger a specific chemical response in the brain

Serotonin

By focusing on 'small wins' and positive actions (knowns as the 3Ps: Positive Action, Positive Interaction and Positive Thinking), the brain increases serotonin production.

Dopamine

Visualising the achievement of goals triggers dopamine, the 'reward' chemical, which motivates you to take real-world action.
